888 Adds MTTs to Mobile Software

888 Poker recently announced that it will be expanding its mobile poker offering to include multi-table tournaments. Since the mobile client previously allowed players to play sit and gos and cash games, there is now something for every type of player.

888 Poker mobile has been around since February 2012. It was first introduced for Androids only and about six months later, developers followed up by introducing an application for iOS devices. The Android application is available in any market in which players can play on 888 for real money, while the iOS application is limited by Apple's iTunes Store's rules to markets where there are laws allowing gaming application downloads.

888 Poker has a generous tournament freeroll that rewards $50,000 to its mobile players as part of the announcement of the application's enhancement. This is awesome for those poker players who were going to play on the application anyway and enticing for those thinking of giving 888's mobile application a shot. The site is also running many television commercials, which should bring more casual players to the site.

The mobile poker craze is only going to get bigger over time. It is important that all viable sites have an application in the near future to allow customers to play across multiple platforms in order to remain competitive. Some players like to know they have the ability to quickly hop on their mobile device if their computer or internet crashes or if they have to pop out while playing.

Other players like playing on a smaller device since it allows them to play anywhere they happen to be. In fact, there are numerous reports of poker players playing live tournaments or cash games and hopping on their mobile device for even more action online at the same time.

There are some downsides to playing poker on a mobile device. You are reliant on a steady internet connection, so if you are not in any area with WiFi or a solid 3G connection, you are potentially putting yourself in a position to disconnect, potentially costing you tournament equity or money.

There have also been complaints that the buttons are too small, making them prone to errors. Multi-tablers will always want to play on their computer for larger screen space and not have table limitations that are currently on all mobile poker applications. There are also some functionality limitations on most poker mobile applications, including finding a player, note taking, full cashier, and player chat.

As a poker software aficionado, one limitation I hope to be resolved in the near future is that there is no ability to run third party software while playing, including your HUD. Unfortunately, this may not be something we see any time soon since mobile devices typically only allow you to run one application at a time. Since you can't play as many tables, this limitation is not as bad as it sounds.

Also, I feel a HUD would only be effective on a tablet since the numbers would be way too small on a smartphone to be able to properly read.
